If there’s one spot in Hawi that beckons with the gentle charm of Aloha and delightful local flavors, it’s Kava Kafe. Nestled at 55-3412 Akoni Pule Hwy, this cafe isn’t just a place for refreshing drinks; it’s an experience that beautifully marries community spirit with the artistry of kava and delicious treats.

Stepping into Kava Kafe, you’re greeted by a warm, inviting atmosphere that encourages you to relax, unwind, and connect with others. The friendly staff is always ready to share their knowledge, whether it’s about the unique offerings or the vibrant culture surrounding the kava experience. Many visitors rave about their friendly interactions, making this a true local treasure.

One of the standout highlights of Kava Kafe is their shave ice. A customer, Lauri Mase, lovingly shared, “It's the most flavorful shave ice I’ve ever had. They use real fruit to flavor the ice.” Imagine a refreshing treat on a sunny day, where the flavors are as genuine as the Hawaiian spirit itself. Beyond shave ice, there’s a myriad of other delights: for those seeking something to sip on, the kava comes highly recommended, offering a unique mental retreat with its effects of mild euphoria and relaxation.

For ice cream lovers, the menu does not disappoint. K Gamerk captures the essence perfectly: “Great experience and great ice cream!” It’s the perfect indulgence after a day spent exploring the breathtaking black sand beaches of Pololu Valley, just a scenic drive away. Pair your treats with a casual game of foosball or enjoy the live music on Friday nights, enhancing your experience with good vibes and even better company.

Knowledgeable customers like Dean Liberman have emphasized that Kava Kafe encapsulates an “open minded culture,” presenting a welcoming haven for everyone who walks through its doors. Whether you’re indulging in the rich coffee-flavored fudge—“OMG!” as George Will described it, or diving into a fresh coconut full of kava as Campbell Cross did, Kava Kafe offers a truly authentic journey through the flavors and experiences that make Hawi special.

In essence, Kava Kafe embodies the spirit of local engagement, fantastic products, and an enduring sense of community. If you’re in Hawi, this café is a must-visit for unforgettable refreshments, delightful treats, and local camaraderie, all served with a generous dose of Aloha!

GO HERE FOR SHAVE ICE. We were searching for some in the area and were told to go to Anuenue so we were headed that way, but stopped for coffee at the place next door. My husband happened to see this place and we were stoked. It’s the most flavorful shave ice I’ve ever had. And they use real fruit to flavor the ice. It’s not bright and toxic colors... it actually feels like a healthy refreshing treat. We of course got the ice cream at the bottom and t was just perfection. We even tried the other company later and even my 2 and 4 year old agreed that the first one we had was way better. So kuddos. Kava kafe—people searching google maps for shave ice will not find you. You should fix that. Because you guys deserve to have lines out the door for it.

It's a Kava bar. The quality of the product itself is quite good, but Kava also comes with a open minded(and open mouthed!) culture. Your experience may vary, but I've greatly enjoyed my experiences there.

Great experience and great ice cream! Hawi is a beautiful small town where people live with Aloha. The ice cream makes for a great afternoon snack after a day on the black sand beach of Pololu valley just up the road! We ate here last year and had the same great experience!

Bought some coffee flavored fudge. OMG!!! Brought some home to Minnesota. I would cut a super thin slice and let it melt on my tongue to make it last. If I ever make it back it's a for sure stop!

The kava resulted in the desired mild euphoria, and passing numbness. Super bland tasting but that was expected. I think $5 is reasonable for a huge coconut full of kava. They also have chocolates and ice cream that I didn't try. Cash only! Theres an ATM in the Coffee store next door tho.
